Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Labuan Bajo – Rinca – Kalong (L,D)
Morning flight to Labuan Bajo. On arrival direct transfer to the harbor to get on boat to Rinca Island. Trekking in Rinca Island to see the Komodo dragons and other wild animals. Dinner and overnight on boat.
Day 2: Kalong – Komodo – Labuan Bajo (B,L,D)
Early morning sailing to Komodo Island. After trekking to Banunggulung in Komodo Island to see the activities of Komodo dragons in their pure environment. Then proceed to Pink Beach for snorkeling and swimming. Lunch on boat. Afernoon return to Labuan Bajo and on arrival direct transfer to your hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant. Then onto your hotel.
Day 3: Labuan Bajo – Ruteng (B,L,D)
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Ruteng with enroute visiting Cancar to see the spider web rice terrace and Lembor irrigation. Stop at Ruteng Nature Conservation Park, a home of Bare Throated Whistler. It is a good chance to hear the voices of these native songbirds in the
park area (but not in rain or strong wind). After lunch continuing to your hotel in Ruteng. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at hotel.
Day 4: Ruteng – Bajawa (B,L,D)
After breakfast leave for Bajawa. On the way stop at the picturesque Ranamese Lake to take a short hike through the adjacent forest and along the lake shore. Lunch enroute. In late afternoon arriving at the hotel in Bajawa. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 5: Bajawa – Moni (B,L,D)
Breakfast at hotel, explore traditional village of Wogo, Luba then proceed to Bena megalithic village where people do preserve their ancestral spirits believed and way of life which can be seen in their ‘Ngadhu’ and ‘Bhaga’, conical thatched roof huts symbolized their male and female ancestral spirits. Lunch enroute. After lunch continuing trip to Pengajawa blue stone beach. Reach Moni in late afternoon.
Day 6:Moni – Ende (B,L,D)
Early morning drive up to Mount Kelimutu and onwards by foot to the top of the Kelimutu which consists of three different colored lakes. This starling phenomenon, caused the ever changing mineral level in this still waters is a wonderful sight for all visitors. Afterwards drive back to the hotel for breakfast and check out. Then proceed drive to Ende with stops at local market and Sukarno’s exhile house. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 7: Ende – Tambolaka – Waikabubak (B,L,D)
Morning flight from Ende to Tambolaka. On arrival you will have time for bird watching in the area. Overnight in Manandang Hotel Waikabubak.
Day 8: Waikabubak – Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park – Waikabubak (B,L,D)
Leave the hotel in the morning before sunrise and drive to Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park. The journey begins in the direction of Lewa to observe birds in the Langgaliru area. Together with a local expert guide for bird watching, you will hike through the hills until reach “KM 51” at around 07:00am for bird watching. Lunch enroute. You will spend the
time in a forest area east of Lewa before overnight at Home stay in Lewa for Dinner and overnight
Day 9: Lewa – Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park – Waikabubak (B,L,D)
Very early morning at05:30am drive to Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park. The ride will take about an hour. The area was declared a National Park only in 1998 and merged with the Laiwangi Wangameti National Park in 2016 to the MaTaLaWa National Park. Typical for this protected area are the densely wooded hills. Officially, 118 different plant, 87 bird and
57 butterfly species are found in the park area. For bird particular endemic species, such as the Orange cockatoo are (Cacatua sulphurea citrinocristata), the Sumba hornbill (Rhyticeros everetti) which Sumba Green Pigeon (Treron teysmannii), the Sumba Flycatcher (Ficedula harterti), the Sumba Sunbird (Nectarinia buettikoferi) and the Sumba Cicadabird (Coracina dohertyi). Start bird watching first with a hike over a hanging bridge in the western part of the park. Continue along the southern shore to discover specimens of Pitta elegant native
to Indonesia. Proceed to eastwards along the road until returning to the river to look for the Timorliest (Todirhamphus australasia). Walk a further 2km through the park area before return to the transportation to go up the hills. Continue the observation in the transition area between forest and plantations. In late afternoon return to Lewa home stay for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Lewa – Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park – Tarimbang (B,L,D)
Very early morning at 05:30am drive to Tarimbang for bird watching in the woods on both sides of the road. In the vicinity of the village you can observe jewelery pitta (Pitta elegans). Afterwards, drive to the Laputi Waterfall near Praingkareha, one of the three particularly
beautiful waterfalls in the MaTaLaWa National Park. The walk to the waterfall will take about 15 minutes each. Afterwards continue in the direction of Langgaliru and Wangamenti. On the way take a bird’s eye view of the cascade river (Cacatua sulphurea). Return to Tarimbang on the south coast of Sumba. Dinner and overnight in Marthen Home stay Tarimbang.
Day 11: Tarimbang – Manupeu Tanah Daru National Park – Waikabubak (B,L,D)
In the morning between 06:00am to 07:00am explore the forest along the coast and then have enough time to relax on the beach and enjoy the sea. After lunch, return to Waikabubak. On the way use the opportunity to see the road near Tarimbang. In late afternoon reach Waikabubak. Check in at the hotel. At dusk, you will stop for birdwatching near the city. Dinner and overnight in Manandang Hotel Waikabubak.
Day 12: Waikabubak – Tambolaka – Departure (B)
Free program until time for transfer to airport for onward flight.
