Elegant Pitta - Labuan Bajo

Labuan Bajo is a small town at the western part of Flores. One of the most popular tourism destination of Indonesia. Komodo National Park with its Varanus Komodoensis and magnificent under water sites are the main reasons to visit Labuan Bajo.  In fact, Labuan Bajo is not only about Komodo National Park. It is also surrounded by the landscapes which is the habitat for bird species diversity. There are 4 important birding hotspots around Labuan Bajo;  Potawangka, Puarlolo, Sanonggoang crater lake and Nanga Naé. Here  is 2 Days / 1 Night Birding Program, to reach the birding sites around Labuan Bajo.


Day 1: Labuan Bajo – Puarlolo – Sanonggoang (-/L/D)

The tour starts at 06:00 am by picking up you at your hotel in Labuan Bajo, then driven about 1 hour to Puarlolo forest. Morning birding at the site till 09:30.
Target: Flores Monarch, Chestnut-capped Thrush, Red Cheeked Parrot, Ruddy Cuckoodove, Crested Heleia, Thick-billed Heleia, Tenggara Whistler, Flores Minivet, and more.
Continue drive to Ndengo village, where ‘the critically endangered’ Flores Hawk Eagle usually soaring around the village. From Ndengo, trekking for 2 km to Cunca Rami waterfall to enjoy the natural pond of the waterfall and do birding around the river. Having lunch at local house (lunch box) then continue drive to Sanonggoang crater lake. Birding around the lake till evening to find Moluccan scops-Owl.
Dinner and Stay overnight at local guesthouse next to the lake.

Day 2: Sanonggoang – Potawangka – Labuan Bajo (B/L/D)

Birding starts at 05:00 am, to find Flores Scops-owl. Continue birding around the lake till 08:00 am. Target; Flores crow, Nusatenggara Paradise Flycatcher, Tenggara Oriole, and more.
Back to the guest house for breakfast then check out. Drive back to Labuan Bajo, with stop at Melo for Lunch.
After lunch: Visit Waemese river at Potawangka forest to continue birding till afternoon. Back to Labuan Bajo, for dinner then drop you to your hotel or After lunch drop you to the airport / harbor.
